Police question Israeli prime minister on expenses
AP - Saturday, November 8
JERUSALEM - Police questioned Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Friday in connection with one of the multiple corruption probes that have driven him from office, a police spokesman said.
The questioning focused on suspicions that Olmert double- and triple-billed travel expenses, pocketing the extra money, police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said.
Investigators spent 2 1/2 hours with Olmert, who resigned in September but will remain as Israel's caretaker leader until a successor is chosen in February elections.
The prime minister is also suspected of carrying out questionable real estate deals and illicitly taking tens of thousands of dollars in cash from a Jewish American businessman. The allegations involve events that took place before he became prime minister in January 2006.
Olmert denies any wrongdoing, and no charges have been brought against him.
