Severed hand, torso found in valley near LA

 AP - Thursday, September 10
LANCASTER, Calif. - Authorities say a male torso has been found in the high desert about 20 miles east of Lancaster, not far from the site where a severed hand was discovered.

Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore says the torso was found in the Lake Los Angeles area Wednesday, one day after a person on a horse found the hand.
Deputies and cadaver dogs searched the area Tuesday night but found no other body parts at that time.
Homicide and coroner's investigators were checking missing persons reports, among other things, to identify the person.
The remains were found near a middle school, but Whitmore says there's no reason to be believe there's any connection and students and their parents should not be concerned.
