"I think we can, in a joint effort with the EU, reform the financial system and reinforce controls on this system," Wen said following talks with Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou in Athens. "With this joint effort, we can overcome our current difficulties and reinforce Sino-European relations," he added. "Hand in hand, the EU and China can reinforce their cooperation to face up to this crisis," said Wen. Papandreou said he would do whatever he could to advance Sino-European relations. "The role of China is very important and we are going to be in close cooperation," he said. Athens is the first stage of Wen's seven-day European tour, which will take in the 48-nation Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) in Brussels on Monday and Tuesday and an EU-China summit on Wednesday. His visit to Europe will finish off with trips to Italy and Turkey. He will also attend the G20 summit in South Korea in early November. The G20 is the premier global economic forum. Its members account for 90 percent of the world's economic output and 80 percent of world trade.
