UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - The United Nations has begun handing out humanitarian aid that was on a Gaza Strip-bound Turkish flotilla hit by a deadly Israeli commando raid last month, the U.N. press office said on Thursday.
World
"The first truckloads of the Turkish flotilla cargo entered Gaza yesterday," it said in a statement.
"The United Nations is working on distributing those goods to appropriate beneficiaries," it said. "The rest of the cargo is scheduled to enter Gaza in the weeks ahead."
Israeli commandos boarded ships in the flotilla as it headed toward the Gaza Strip on May 31. Nine Turkish pro-Palestinian activists on one of the vessels were killed.
The ships and cargo were taken to an Israeli port and the aid is being taken to Gaza overland.
Under pressure to investigate the incident, Israel launched an inquiry with two international observers. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is pushing for a separate U.N. investigation with both Israeli and Turkish participation.
The flotilla incident soured Israel's strategic ties with Turkey, an important Islamic ally which has since recalled its ambassador and canceled joint military exercises.
Israel says its blockade of Gaza is necessary to prevent weapons from reaching Islamist militants. It says pro-Palestinian activists assaulted the commandos with knives, metal bars and clubs when they boarded one of the vessels.
In response to Western criticism, including from its biggest ally the United States, Israel has since eased a land blockade of Gaza where 1.5 million Palestinians live, allowing most civilian goods through, while continuing to enforce a naval embargo along the coast.

This article does not mention that the aid was delivered to Gaza the day after the Flotilla incident, on June 1. It was Hamas that was keeping it from reaching people until today. Here is a video showing the transport of the aid from Israel to Gaza on June 1, 2010:

Palestinian leaders make their own people victims and the world helps to perpetuate with all the aid handouts.
They have had ample opportunity to improve their economy and livelihood, example when Israel vacated Gush Katif, they left behind extremely profitable hot houses and farms from whixch they exported to Europe. When teh palestinians took over they promptly destroyed synagogues and hot houses and turned the area into a rocket launch pad.

I particularly like the subtle anti-isreali position taken in this article “Turkish flotilla hit by a deadly Israeli commando raid”.
How about the more accurate description “Terrorist sympathizers thwarted in attempt to break blockade designed to protect Isreals right to exist.”

ok, maybe the anti-isreal slant of the article wasn’t so subtle.

vrdude,
in the mind of the liberal media(and of course almost all media sources fall into this category)the victim is the aggressor and the aggressor easily manipulates the world into thinking that they are the victims. Ironically, these same “victims” would condemn the lifestyle and ideals of the liberal westener. As a matter of fact some of the values that liberal westeners hold most dear you could be hanged for in the these countries,,, I digress.

This article omits the death of an American attempting to bring humanitarian aid to Gaza. In years past the presence of an American would have guarenteed the arrival of the aid. Where is the State Department on this?

This article does not even mention that the commandos were clubbed, stabbed, dropped thirty feet and attemptedly held captive by the hired goons among the activists.
I expect more balanced coverage from Reuters…
