Stiller gets serious in movie on mid-life crisis

BERLIN - Ben Stiller ditches the slapstick comedy and gets more serious in "Greenberg," a low budget drama about a man in mid-life crisis struggling to deal with painful truths about himself and his failures. The U.S. actor best known for comedies like "Meet the Fockers" and "There's Something About Mary," and the hit "Night at the Museum" action franchise, said he enjoyed the change from more familiar fare.

Chinese Coen brothers remake thrills Berlin festival

BERLIN - A Chinese remake of the American thriller "Blood Simple" probably could not have been made two decades ago because of restrictions on filmmakers at the time, director Zhang Yimou said on Sunday. The Chinese director said he was a huge fan of the 1985 neo-noir crime film by the Coen brothers about murder and infidelity ever since seeing it at a festival.

Scorsese eyes new film project with Robert De Niro

BERLIN - Martin Scorsese is keen to revive a cinematic partnership with Robert De Niro that goes back to "Mean Streets" nearly 40 years ago and says the project will be related to the mobster world. The 67-year-old movie maker was at the Berlin film festival for the premiere Saturday of his latest picture "Shutter Island," his fourth collaboration with Leonardo DiCaprio.

Olivia Newton-John's "Physical" sexiest song ever

LOS ANGELES - Move aside Madonna and watch out Barry White. The winner of the sexiest song of all time is -- Olivia Newton-John with "Physical," according to music publication Billboard. Billboard has come up with a list of the 50 most popular songs about sex in time for Valentine's Day with each song given points according to its performance on the Billboard hot 100 chart from August 1958 until January this year.

Madonna transforms into "Marriage Ref" for TV

LOS ANGELES - Twice-divorced pop star Madonna will take on a new profession -- marriage referee -- when she makes a rare television appearance on an upcoming show from comedian Jerry Seinfeld about feuding couples. The "Material Girl," who divorced her British movie director husband Guy Ritchie in 2008, will be one of a panel of celebrities on "The Marriage Ref" who will decide which spouse should be declared "winner" of a domestic spat filmed in their own homes.

New De Niro? DiCaprio steps up as Scorsese's star

NEW YORK - Leonardo DiCaprio may not remind movie fans of a young Robert De Niro, but he has taken on one of the intense New York actor's rewarding legacies. DiCaprio, who won adoration and became a box office draw in "Titanic," has become the favored star of U.S. film director Martin Scorsese, whose pairing with De Niro catapulted both their careers in films like "Taxi Driver" and "Raging Bull."

Naomi Campbell hosts Haiti show that mourns McQueen

NEW YORK - Model Naomi Campbell spearheaded a fundraiser fashion show on Friday to benefit Haiti featuring outfits from some of the world's top designers and a tribute to British designer Alexander McQueen. Campbell, who organized the half-hour show held during New York's fashion week, strutted down the runway alongside designers Diane von Furstenberg and Donna Karan, model Helena Christensen as well as celebrities including musician Chris Brown and Kelly Osbourne, daughter of rocker Ozzy Osbourne.

"Project Runway" hopefuls show at NY Fashion Week

NEW YORK - Ten contestants of "Project Runway" showed collections on Friday at New York Fashion Week, part of the reality show's efforts to keep the three finalists secret until the television season ends. Only three of the 10 designers at Fashion Week were the true finalists, but the television audience will not know who they are until the show's seventh season ends this spring.

Fashion world's provocateur McQueen dead at 40

LONDON - British fashion designer Alexander McQueen, whose provocative collections made him a global star, was found dead at his London home on Thursday in what media said appeared to be suicide. He was 40. Nicknamed the "hooligan" of British fashion for his close-cropped hair, trademark Doc Marten boots and shocking catwalk collections, McQueen rose from teenage trainee tailor to runway darling before the age of 30. He had been expected to unveil his new collection at Paris Fashion Week in March.

Brittany Murphy's last film set for release this year

LOS ANGELES - The last film made by U.S. actress Brittany Murphy, who died in December after suffering cardiac arrest, is heading to the big screens later this year after being picked up by Anchor Bay Entertainment. The film distribution company said in a statement that it had bought the psychological thriller "Abandoned" for North American distribution with the film set to be released this summer.
