Search web search Home Singapore Asia Pacific World Business Entertainment Sports Technology Singapore Asia Pacific World SKorea's LG Chem plans 2.5 bln dlr investment AFP - Wednesday, September 23 Send IM Story Print SKorea's LG Chem plans 2.5 bln dlr investment SEOUL (AFP) - – South Korea's largest chemicals company LG Chem said Wednesday it would invest three trillion won (2.5 billion dollars) by 2018 in producing glass for liquid crystal display (LCD) panels. Work will start this year on a production line to open by early 2012 and six more lines will be added in phases by 2018, the company said in a statement. When all the lines are operating LG Chem said it aims to produce more than 50 million square metres (538 million square feet) of LCD glass every year, with annual sales of two trillion won (1.7 billion dollars). Samsung Corning Precision Glass, a joint venture between Samsung Electronics and Corning of the United States, currently dominates the world's LCD glass business along with two Japanese companies. "LCD glass production is a high-yielding business which leaves a high profit margin of some 40-50 percent of sales," an LG Chem official told AFP.
