Blur reunion gig sells out in two minutes
AFP - Saturday, December 13
LONDON (AFP) - - Tickets for British band Blur's reunion concert next year sold out within two minutes of going on sale Friday, organisers said.
The four-piece group, who had a string of hits in the 1990s will perform a second 50,000-capacity date in London's Hyde Park due to the demand for tickets.
The band will stage the extra gig on July 2.
"After an overwhelming run on tickets for the band's now sold-out show on Friday July 3, a second date has been added in an attempt to meet demand," said a spokesman for Live Nation Music UK.
Blur, whose hits include "Girls And Boys" and "Parklife," were at the forefront of the Britpop guitar music scene in the 1990s and nurtured a very public rivalry with rockers Oasis.
Singer Damon Albarn, guitarist Graham Coxon, bassist Alex James and drummer Dave Rowntree have not performed together as a four-piece since 2000. Coxon left the band in 2002. The others carried on without him, but the band has been dormant since the last album in 2003.
Chief songwriter Albarn has since enjoyed commercial and critical success with his hip-hop band Gorillaz and The Good, The Bad And The Queen, as well as working extensively with musicians from Mali. He has also worked on "Monkey: Journey To The West", a pop-opera inspired by Chinese legend.
