AVA says Singapore does not import eggs from China
Channel NewsAsia - 2 hours 5 minutes ago
SINGAPORE: The Agri—Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) said Singapore does not import eggs from China.
Most of the eggs available here come from accredited poultry farms in Malaysia, while the others come from local chicken farms.
AVA added that processed egg products from China are also not sold in the retail market.
Although Singapore does not import fresh chicken eggs from China, AVA said Singapore imports salted duck and preserved duck eggs and its laboratory tests showed no melamine contamination in these imported eggs.
To ensure national food safety here, AVA said they conduct stringent process of regular reviews, accreditation and inspection of source farms, abattoirs and food—processing factories.
This announcement comes after authorities in Hong Kong said they found contaminated eggs imported from China.
Hong Kong authorities said they are expanding their tests to include meat as animal feed has been found tainted with a derivative of melamine.
