3 new faces co—opted into PAP’s Central Executive Committee

SINGAPORE: Three new faces have been co—opted into the 18—member People’s Action Party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC).
They are Acting Manpower Minister Gan Kim Yong, Senior Parliamentary Secretary (Community Development, Youth and Sports) Teo Ser Luck and Deputy Speaker Indranee Rajah.
Senior Minister of State (Home Affairs and Law) Ho Peng Kee, and MPs Teo Ho Pin and Halimah Yacob have stepped down.
At the party’s annual conference on November 16, PAP members cast secret ballots electing 12 members to the CEC.
Senior Minister of State (Transport) Lim Hwee Hua and National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan, who received the 13th and 14th highest number of votes at the ordinary party conference, were also co—opted into the CEC.
Minister in Prime Minister’s Office Lim Boon Heng was elected chairman.
Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Yaacob Ibrahim is the Vice—Chairman and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is Secretary—General.
Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng is the first Assistant Secretary General and Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean is the Second Assistant Secretary General.
The Treasurer post went to Mah Bow Tan, while Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam is the Assistant Treasurer.
Other CEC members include Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo, Minister in Prime Minister’s Office Lim Swee Say, Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan and Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports Vivian Balakrishnan.
The HQ Executive Committee will be chaired by Mr Wong Kan Seng with Mr Teo Chee Hean as vice—chairman. — CNA/vm
