S$3m motor sports extravaganza to be held later this month at Changi
Channel NewsAsia - 1 hour 55 minutes ago
SINGAPORE: Singapore’s inaugural formula one race may be over but motor sports fever is still in high gear. A S$3 million extravaganza called "Carrerista Jamboree" is set to pump up the adrenalin from December 27 to 31 at the Changi Exhibition Centre.
Drifting has become part of the global motor—sport culture and it will be featured prominently at the jamboree.
Another highlight will be Japanese drifter Nobuteru Taniguchi, who will be here to do demonstrations. A highly popular figure in the drifting world, he holds various fastest lap records in Japan.
It will be a first for Singapore when the quarter—mile drag race kicks off. This is where cars speed down a 402—metre straight.
Koh Aik Leong, organiser of the Carrerista Jamboree and managing director of MPT Motor Trading, said: "The quarter—mile drag is very famous in the USA and Australia. And our local racers dream to have such an event in Singapore, but we don’t have such a location. So this event is the one they’ve been waiting for."
The event will also feature a six—hour Go—Kart endurance race.
Organisers said they hope to increase the buzz on motor sports here. — CNA/vm
