Travellers urged to help ease congestion this festive season
Channel NewsAsia - 1 hour 18 minutes ago
SINGAPORE: Travellers have been urged to play their part in easing congestion at land checkpoints this festive season.
The Immigrations and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) expects traffic flow through the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints to become heavier in the next two weeks.
For departures, traffic is expected to build up as early as this Wednesday, while traffic at the arrival gates are expected to be particularly heavy on the evenings of December 28, January 1 and January 4.
ICA says while the build—up is unavoidable with enhanced security checks, travellers can also play their part.
They are advised to plan their journeys early and to avoid peak periods altogether.
If there is a real need to travel during the peak periods, travellers can help ease congestion at the land checkpoints by maintaining lane discipline.
They are also encouraged to car—pool or make use of public transport to avoid the congestion.
For faster immigration clearance, Singaporean travellers with valid passports can use the Enhanced Immigration Automated Clearance System (eIACS) lanes at the Bus Halls.
Travellers are also reminded to ensure they are carrying their own passports.
In the past, ICA has detected a number of cases where travellers presented the wrong passports for immigration clearance, and this has affected clearance efficiency and caused inconvenience to other travellers.
Travellers are also advised to monitor and get the latest traffic situation at both checkpoints before embarking on their journey.
They can call the traffic information hotline at 6863—0117, tune in to TrafficWatch on the radio, or visit the Land Transport Authority’s One Motoring website at www.onemotoring.com.sg.
