MOE releases data on pass rates at PSLE, GCE ’O’ and ’A’ levels
Channel NewsAsia - 2 hours 35 minutes ago
SINGAPORE: Singapore’s primary and secondary school students continue to do well in their exams.
Data from the Education Ministry (MOE) showed 97.7 per cent of last year’s batch passed the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE).
When broken down by ethnic group, pass rates were 93 per cent for Malay students, 99 per cent for Chinese students and 96.2 per cent for Indian students.
Last year’s GCE ’O’ Level cohort saw 94.7 per cent securing at least three passes, with 86.6 per cent of Malay students, 96.5 per cent of Chinese students, and 91.3 per cent of Indian students clearing the exam.
2007 saw the first cohort of ’A’ Level candidates sitting for exams under a revised curriculum, with 87.1 per cent success — a passing rate that is identical to previous years even though the curricula are not directly comparable.
Pass rates for the three ethnic groups were 76.4 per cent for Malay students, 88.1 per cent for Chinese students and 82.2 per cent for Indian students.
MOE data also showed that for the fourth year running, over 90 per cent of Singapore’s Primary One students have gone on to post—secondary institutions.
These include junior colleges, polytechnics, Institute of Technical Education, Centralised Institute, LaSalle College of the Arts and the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts.
