Joe Nieh speculated to marry Vivian Chow on Jan 5
Channel NewsAsia - Monday, December 22
13 days after writer Joe Nieh's affair with student Miffty Zhang has been exposed, Nieh surprises the public with news of his marriage with Vivian Chow. The wedding is now rumored to be taking place on Jan 5 and will be a simple affair with just both families and close friends. The couple is now amidst wedding preparations.
Unlike the general public who usually apply for marriage registration online, Nieh chose to make a trip to the registry of marriage personally on Dec 18. It was reported that he had wanted to catch the media's attention with action. However, his plans failed as he was too early for the media. Nieh later sent a press release to "remedy the situation".
Under Hong Kong's marriage legislation, the earliest date for marriage registration is 17 days after both parties sign the marriage notice. It can be deduced, then, that the earliest date for Chow and Nieh's wedding will be on Jan 4.
According to sources, the wedding will be held on Jan 5 and solemnized by a lawyer. The venue will somewhere seclude, away from the harassment and sight of the media. Nieh is currently sourcing for a suitable location.
Due to the rush, the wedding will be a simple affair with just four to five tables at the banquet for families and close friends like Leo Ku, Cheung Tat-Ming, Vincent Kuk and Jo Kuk.
Chow's manager Ambrose Chan says, "The wedding has not been arranged. I will not be involved in the preparations because I'm busy with other stuff."
Though the public has been criticizing Chow's decision to marry the unfaithful and disloyal man, it does not bother her. Despite having people who are against the marriage, Chan says there are also many other friends supportive of it. Chow has no plans to announce the wedding publicly in person.
The 21-year-old Zhang, who was caught locking tongues with Nieh at a nightspot, is still missing in action. However, there are reports quoting her blog which reveals plans to expose Nieh's intimate photos taken with her.
