LOS ANGELES - Patrick Swayze, the "Dirty Dancing" star who is battling pancreatic cancer, has been hospitalized with pneumonia, a television network executive said on Friday. Swayze skipped a round of interviews scheduled to promote his new crime drama "The Beast" on the A&E cable TV network because of his hospitalization, network president Robert DeBitetto told reporters at the Television Critics Association meetings in Los Angeles.
Fugitive filmmaker Polanski loses bid to move case
LOS ANGELES - Fugitive filmmaker Roman Polanski on Friday lost his bid to disqualify the Los Angeles County court system from considering his motion to dismiss a 30-year-old charge of unlawful sex with a minor. Lawyers for the Oscar-winning director behind such classics as "Rosemary's Baby" and "Chinatown" filed court papers this week requesting the case be referred to the California Judicial Council for "selection of an impartial, out-of-county" judge.

DETROIT - Motown has always been about more than music. As the soul empire turns 50 on Monday, its founders are looking back at its brand of music dubbed the "Motown sound" that remains popular today and the record company's role in breaking down racial barriers in America. Founded in 1959 in Detroit by songwriter and entrepreneur Berry Gordy using an $800 family loan, Motown plans a year-long celebration with record releases, documentaries and exhibitions. LONDON - The first official sequel to the original Winnie-the-Pooh books will appear in October, its publishers said on Saturday, more than 80 years after the honey-loving bear first appeared in print. Actor Ryan O'Neal pleads guilty to drug charge
LOS ANGELES - Actor Ryan O'Neal, best known as star of the 1970 film "Love Story," pleaded guilty on Friday to possessing methamphetamine and was ordered to complete 18 months of drug counseling. As part of the plea, the 67-year-old actor's case will be dismissed if he successfully completes the drug diversion program.
"60 Minutes" unveils special edition DVD on Obama
LOS ANGELES - Taking its cue from Barack Obama's slogan "Yes we can," the team at venerable news program "60 Minutes" is taking its chances in the DVD market with a special edition disc covering the president-elect's path to the White House. News programing has never been as hot an item as movies or television dramas on DVDs but CBS, the network behind "60 Minutes, says it could release future discs using the program's brand despite the short shelf-life of news programing.

LOS ANGELES - "Dexter" star Michael C. Hall has married co-star Jennifer Carpenter, who plays his sister on the television show, the actor's representative said on Friday. They wed on New Year's Eve in picturesque Big Sur, California, and she had a wedding ring linked to a bouquet, Hall's representative Craig Bankey said in a statement.
