Taiwan dollar rises for 3rd day on exporters
Reuters - Friday, December 26
TAIPEI, Dec 26 - The Taiwan dollar <TWD=TP> strengthened for a third day in thin trade on Friday, as exporters purchased the local currency to meet their cash needs at home before the end of the year.
The Taiwan dollar <TWD=TP> rose to T$32.965 against the U.S. dollar by 0135 GMT from Thursday's close of T$33.030.
Volume on the Taipei Forex Inc exchange was thin at $27 million as of 0130 GMT, lower than $34 million the same time a day earlier.
"It's a quiet day as it's near the end of the year," said a dealer in Taipei.
"Only some exporters bought the Taiwan dollar," the dealer said, adding the Taiwan dollar would not fall too much before the year-end as exporters continued to convert their holdings of U.S. dollars.
He expected the currency to trade between T$32.9 and T$33.1 through next Wednesday.
On the smaller Cosmos exchange <COSMOS1> exchange, the Taiwan dollar rose to T$32.970 by 0135 GMT from Thursday's finish of T$33.017. (Reporting by Gina Chang and Yvette Chen; Editing by Jonathan Hopfner)
