S.Korea Q1 exports outlook plummets - association
Reuters - Friday, December 26
SEOUL, Dec 26 - An index measuring how South Korean exporters assess their business prospects for the coming quarter plunged to the lowest since such data was first introduced six years ago, a local trade research institute showed on Friday.
The Institute for International Trade, run by the country's influential Korea International Trade Association, said in a statement its export business survey index for the first quarter of next year fell to 33.4 from 82.8 for the current quarter.
It was the lowest level since the institute started releasing the data in the third quarter of 2002, an official at the institute said.
It also marked the third consecutive quarter that the index fell from the preceding quarter.
A reading below 100 means the number of companies expecting export sales in the coming quarter to drop from the current quarter outpaced those foreseeing an improvement.
South Korean exports in November fell a revised 19 percent from a year earlier, much worse than forecasts, adding to worries a global economic slowdown is denting the country's sales abroad.
