BEIJING (Reuters) - Four female students at the Shanghai Business School died after jumping from their sixth-floor dormitory room to escape a fire, the Xinhua news agency reported on Friday.

The fire started about 6:10 a.m. (5:10 p.m. EST on Thursday), a spokesman with the municipal public security bureau told Xinhua. Officials did not disclose the cause.

Police said the fire burned about 20 square meters of the room, but did not spread.

The school, located in downtown Shanghai, has more than 10,000 students.
