NTBS Officials Say Preliminary Evidence Consistent With Birds Striking Jet

New York, NY (AHN) - Investigators on Saturday released the first details of what happened after US Airways Flight 1549 experienced engine failure shortly after takeoff and the quick-thinking pilot ditched the plane into the Hudson River, saving the lives of all aboard.
It is likely that hitting a flock of birds that got clogged in the plane's engines was the cause of engine failure, according to preliminary information released by the National Transportation Safety Board on Saturday.
Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger and his co-pilot were interviewed by investigators for the first time on Saturday.
And NTSB board member Kitty Higgins said that a passenger sitting in the plane's first class section reported seeing birds strike the jet and two FAA radars detected vague targets in the jet's path that were consistent with flocks of birds.
NTSB officials released the first official accounts of what the flight crew did during the few minutes of the flight that reportedly hit a flock of birds 98 minutes after it took off from La Guardai Airport Thursday afternoon headed for North Carolina.
Investigators released still haven't retrieved the engines or the plane's black box. In addition, workers on Saturday were still trying to remove the plane, which is partially submerged and filled with water, from the icy river.
