China's GOME says chairman has resigned after police probe
AFP - Monday, January 19
BEIJING (AFP) - - One of China's richest men, Huang Guangyu, has resigned as director and chairman of GOME Electrical Appliances, the company said Sunday, two months after it confirmed he was being investigated by police.
Huang's resignation resulted from "inability to perform his duties as director", GOME said in a statement, adding he also automatically ceased to be chairman of the group.
Huang, who in October was ranked number two on US magazine Forbes' list of China's richest people behind Shanghai-based agricultural feed tycoon Liu Yongxin, is suspected of manipulating share trading in two mainland-listed companies, according to the official Xinhua news agency.
Hong Kong-listed GOME announced late November that Huang and the firm's chief financial officer were being investigated by Beijing police.
Beijing police said earlier this month that Huang's wife, Du Juan, was also under investigation for economic crimes.
