ZoukOut party draws record crowd of over 26,000
Channel NewsAsia - Sunday, December 14
SINGAPORE: The annual ZoukOut, the region’s largest party, took place at Sentosa on Saturday.
Partygoers came from all over the world and danced from dusk till dawn.
Ringga Ardiant, an Indonesian tourist, said: “I heard about ZoukOut from my friends and since I know that the ZoukOut party is always big and massive, I made it down here this year."
This year’s ZoukOut saw over 26,000 partygoers turning up. That’s 3,000 more than last year despite the current economic downturn.
When ZoukOut first started eight years ago, it drew a crowd of 9,000 people. Today, it is the largest party in Southeast Asia and the annual highlight in the Singapore party calendar.
But there’s a possibility the party may not last much longer on the beach.
Developments are coming up at Siloso beach where the party is held and with the space constraints, ZoukOut may need to find a new venue.
Tracy Phillips, marketing manager, Zouk, said: “We are trying our hardest to remain on the beach because that is something that has given ZoukOut a part of its mystique. But at the same time, if we were to move, maybe the concept of ZoukOut might have to change a little to fit the space. It will be a lot more industrial.”
Whether it’s on the beach or in a warehouse, partygoers said they trust ZoukOut will be a unique nightlife experience. — CNA/vm
