World’s fastest off—track car, Ariel Atom, to be sold in Singapore
Channel NewsAsia - 1 hour 13 minutes ago
SINGAPORE: From zero to a hundred kilometres in less than three seconds —— that makes the Ariel Atom one of the "fastest production car", quicker off the blocks than a Porsche or Lamborghini.
It is fast and fun but more importantly, it gives one the sheer exhilaration of speed without the frills.
The British—made Ariel Atom has no roof, doors nor windshield.
The tubular steel chassis and the other workings of the car can be seen.
But the no—frills concept is what allows it to be a rocket on wheels.
At a mere 500 kilogrammes, but with a 300 horsepower engine, the extraordinary power—to—weight ratio allows the pint—sized dynamo to outsprint its more illustrious rivals.
"In the UK, it has been shown that the guys who own the Ferraris and Lamborginis are giving that up to buy the Ariel Atom because at the same time, what they are looking at is a very cost—effective way of motor racing," said the executive director of Atomicracing Asia, Mark Chim.
The importers of Ariel Atom are hoping to get the approval for the car to be driven on normal roads. That would also mean the need to have a windshield, two side panels and bigger rear view mirrors.
And it will cost S$288,000 to own this mean machine.
So fans will have to wait at least a few months to see this speed demon on Singapore roads.
