Bach letters uncovered in German university archives
AFP - Saturday, December 13
LEIPZIG, Germany (AFP) - - Three letters written by 18th century German composer Johann Sebastian Bach have been uncovered in the archives of the University of Leipzig in eastern Germany, it was announced Friday.
The letters, dating from 1743, 1745, and 1748, were written by the musician on behalf of three of his students who were applying for university grants, the association responsible for Bach's archives said.
Bach was at the time cantor at the Thomaschule (Thomas School), associated with Leipzig's Saint Thomas church of the same name.
He held the position for 27 years until his death in 1750 at age 65.
